ZEN GARDEN (INSTALLATION) for REGGIE VAN LEE, 2012 - Wharton, TX

This meditative space is situated as a transitional respite between the parking garage on one side and the master suite on the other in this family compound. The sounds of the natural world flow in from the surrounding acreage; the pebble path provides textures. The surrounding panels, on which I drew my glyph symbols with billboard paints in order to withstand the elements, create a portal to peace while seated on the Dogon Chair III, fabricated in Costa Rica.

AN INSTALLATION as an OFFICE for MS. JAMISON, 2004 - Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, New York, NY

This space involved my custom designs, placement and selections of artworks and accessories and decoupage of the column mural.  All textiles, beads and indigenous found objects were harvested by me from Ms. Jamison's extensive collections of gifts from admirers she encountered on the company's world-wide tours.  Ms. Jamison's life story is told throughout the space and in details such as the ironing board shape of the desk that references an ancestor's profession.

MODUS OPERANDI for IMAGINATION & INVENTION, 2000 - NEWARK MUSEUM, Newark, NJ

The four vignettes along with the floating shelf on the back wall exhibit my varied influences and their results through my vision in the "Dogon Chair" and two "Because You’re Worth It” mirrors.  The photographer seamless backdrop is embellished with Chinese Funerary paper (burned at death to provide funds in the afterlife).  Also included are my hand-drawn “Glyphs”, a language I have continued to channel, define and re-create to this day in different media—most recently as kaleidoscope prints and an oracle deck.
